Match- USMLE match

W

e talked before about the USMLE and its cost, and we stopped at Step 1 and Step 2. That's it, thank God, you succeeded in them. There are two steps left for you (Match and Step 3), and today's article will be about them.

What is the match?

Matching is a system similar to our Egyptian fellowship system. You apply on the ERAS website and arrange the desires in the majors you want, and compete with another 14,000 foreign students, most of whom are Indians and South Americans, and 23,000 thousand students from America. Of the foreign students, only about 7,000 succeed.

Submission deadline:

The application will be in September, and the result will be in the middle of March of the following year.

The number of desires and submission to the match?

The best thing is that the desires are not less than 50 desires. You already have a maximum of 300, and it is preferable to apply in programs that have a lot of IMG (meaning they accept a lot of foreign students) and countries that are called IMG Friendly. Close to Skork in step 1, 2.

USMLE Match

You apply and wait for interviews to come to you from a number of programs that you applied to, then you arrange their appointments, travel to them, and come back and wait for the results of the match in the middle of March.

There is something called couple matching, and this is that you and your wife apply, and then you send the couple request, this increases the chances of the person whose CV is not very strong and makes you meet in the same place together.

Wish costs and submission costs for the match:

The first 10 majors you will choose, one major is $99.

From 11 to 20, the specialization is $15.

From the 21st to the 30th, the specialization is $19,

and after the 30th specialization or above, each desire is $26

+ the costs of your seat and transportation in America for the interviews.

The most important reasons to increase your chances of succeeding in the match?

The first and most important thing, of course, is your score in step 2, because step 1 is now pass or fail only, so you must get a high score in step 2.

Research, as much as you can do research, work and search for many opportunities, by the way, we wrote an article about research that you can see from this link .

The clinical experience in America or what is known as elective.

The most important thing is that you get out of the elective period with Recommendation letters a lot and good, because it will greatly increase your chances of acceptance in the match.

Of course, if you take step 3 before this match, it will also increase your chances.

What after the match?

We have already reached the middle of March, and you are not gone, praise be to God, in one of the majors in which you submitted your wishes. You will spend a period of representation from 3 to 8 years, according to your specialization.

What about USMLE Step 3?

As for step 3, you will be required to take an exam in your first year in the Public Prosecution Office there, and this exam tests everything, but the focus is more on gynecology, internal medicine, medical care and children, and it will be two consecutive days, each day an exam duration 7 to 9 hours.

The exam takes place on any day of the year except for the first two weeks in January (because of birthdays) and 4/7 because of their holiday. You specify with them 3 months at a time, and you have to fear the exam on one of them. If you fail, you have to repeat the exam 6 times.

The exam consists of 7 blocks, each block contains no more than 40 questions, and the time for each block is only one hour, which means that the total is approximately 280 questions, their duration is 7 hours, and you have an hour of rest that you can divide as you want between the blocks and some of them. Of course, they also test endurance and concentration more than the information itself, and the exam is MCQ Clinical Cases questions.
